Case Study: Delfica

What is Delfica?

In the long run, Raluca Georgescu noticed that the sites dedicated to women deal usually with topics related to astrology and with thematic discussions and experience changes between persons of the same sign, with issues having to do with compatibility, diets according to the horoscope or ways to attract the natives of a certain sign. Delfica presents itself as a facilitating instrument that brings together those passionate about astrology and their discussions. With Delfica, each sign of the zodiac is welcome to ask questions about its own astrological sign or about the way in which it could interact better with all the other zodiac partners.

Approach

Our collaboration started out from a single email. Raluca Georgescu knew that she wanted to create a q&a site – similar with answers.yahoo – about horoscope, compatibility signs, love, etc., but the project was still just an idea. It is not a secret the fact that the site addresses women to a great extent. Because who else, if not women, is always sensitive and strongly confident in astrological signs? Then, as we knew that women were our target, Brohouse had to create an elegant feminine logo.

Naming

Brohouse had to solve another problem as well, that is, finding a name. In our propositions for the name, we tried to avoid words such as “horoscope” or “signs”, in fact we wanted to play a little bit with words. Moreover, we modified the structure of the word making it sound in a more feminine way without changing however its meaning.

Raluca Georgescu chose “Delfica” at once because it makes reference to the “Oracolul din Delphi and because it suggests clearly the specificity of the site.

Logo

We didn’t have to do a thoroughgoing analysis in order to understand that the logo had to be warm and to reflect a woman’s elegance. One way was to come closer as much as possible to the Greek concept by creating a font with Greek characters.

>

<span style=

The thing that we overlooked was that we didn’t manage to “embody” the idea of love and seduction. Because of this, the logo was not “breathing out” feminity whereas Raluca wished to spotlight this aspect at all costs.

The Solution

It involved a laborious process until we got to the present result. This logo backs up the concept: it’s feminine, elegant, sensual, warm, etc. The concept of the “swan” was not created at random. The swan is the symbol of peace, purity, truth, innocence and happiness. The swans’ necks are deliberately stooped in order to shape them into the “heart”, the symbol of union, intimacy and love (in Greek, “delphi” means “heart”!). The logo was applied on a red background considered the color of love.

Distinctie – Logo From Dreams Awards

Logo From Dream Awards is one of those sites evaluating the most important “eye-catching” logo design. Creativity is a gift, so the staff managing Logo From Dreams Awards decided to gather the best logos all over the world and to choose each day’s best logo, or what they call “Logo Of The Day Award”.
Delfica logo was granted the distinction “Logo of January 16, 2009″ joining the most creative, interactive and original logos all over the world.

PS: Brohouse received a distinction as well for the “Mk Zoom” logo as “Logo of November 11, 2008
